TENFOURTY HOUSE
Katipunan, Quezon City
10x40 house
Concept Design
sketches
Tenfourty / 10 X40 is derived from the dimensions of the project site. The client wanted a contemporary / modern house with 4-5 bedrooms and huge open plan living-dining-kitchen area, and a lawn at the rear of the property.
To create a balance between indoor and outdoor spaces on the elongated inside lot, the house was built-to-line (firewalled) on the west-facing right side (shielding it from the sun) and set-back on the remaining 3 sides thus creating an interconnected and centralized open area. The central courtyard, adjacent the double-volume dining area bisects the house into 2 separate masses which are then connected via the staricase and the bridge on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
As an alternative to the pivot main door, the 'windows' in front of the living room act as accordion doors that can be opened converting the front deck into a spillover space if needed. Moreover, the surrounding fenestrations facing the courtyard are also operable allowing for natural light and ventilation, literally connecting the interior and exterior spaces at ground level.
